Mickey Strand is a Photographer & Educator living in San
Diego, Ca. Mickey Retired as a Chief Petty Officer Photographers
Mate, and is enjoying his continuation in Photography after his 24
years of service. He works in his studio on a variety of personal and
client projects as well as shooting and teaching with ACME educational,
Maine Media Workshops, and Madeline Island School of the Arts.
Mickeys current Studio projects are Beyond the Cut, a portrait experience of Bikers and the Motorcycle Club community, and his WW2
Veterans Portrait Project, documenting veterans from the "Greatest
Generation" and is the Area Director for San Diego Veterans
Help-Portrait Projects. These projects along with client work keep him pretty busy.
The class is for the beginning photo person, or a refresher to get started again, to learn the basics of your digital single reflex or mirrorless camera. Class will provide instruction about the operating use of the camera, menus, and camera functions.
Also covered will be strategies for shooting various types of subjects, such as people, things and landscape. Cameras will not be provided so please bring your DSLR to class, any model, and be sure to charge the battery.
"Going All Manual" Intermediate Photography class. This class is for the amateur photographer to take the next step of moving away from the automatic camera modes and start using their digital SLR or mirrorless in the manual modes. You will learn the basics of your camera and how moving to the manual modes will increase your skill of operating the camera.
We will provide instruction about the operating use of the camera, menus, and camera functions. We will also cover strategies for shooting various types of subjects, such as people, pets, things and landscape.
Landscape Class - Instructor Ben Horne. Are you looking to improve your landscape Photography skills? In this 3 hour class, we will cover visual aesthetics (why we choose to compose shots the way we do), controlling tonality, producing the sharpest photo possible, and many other techniques used by landscape photographers.
This class is well suited for the beginner through intermediate photographers using digital SLR cameras.

Join Monica Royal to discuss how she applies principles of visual design in landscape photography. She'll explain the difference between neutral density and circular polarizing filters, and which shutter speeds are best and what accessories are needed for long exposures.

Required: Camera, lens, tripod.
